There is a separate field of Vedic astrology known as the “Varsha Phal” or annual events.
This is read from a special chart known as the annual chart or ‘Yearly Horoscope’. The chart is prepared based on the fact that the Thithi of birth returns every year. Thithi is the arc between the Moon and the sun. There are 14 Tithes before and 14 Tithi’s after every full and new moon. The 14 after the new moon are called Shukla paksha and the 14 after full moon are Krishna paksha. Krishna stands for dark and Shukla for white in sansmskrita.
On the day of birth the Moon is on some Tithi let us say for e.g. it was the 9th day from new Moon.
At the birth time the (moon – sun would be say = x degrees). So after one year when Moon attains the
same position, the second year of life starts. Though the Sun and moon may be at the same distance their zodiacal position and the zodiacal position of other planets does not remain the same as at birth. Hence a new chart can be drawn from the new position which is called as the Varshphal chart or annual chart.
In this chart also various dasas can be calculated just as we do for the main chart. For calculating the Vimsottari dasa period s the entire year is made equivalent to 120years (360 = 120). A lunar year is 360 days and not 365 like the solar year. The balance of dasa at birth is worked out based on Moon star and subsequent reduced dasa periods in days are also worked out.
For e.g. Jupiter dasa would be 16x 365/120 = 48 days and 15 hrs or 1month- 18 days 15 hrs. The effect o Jupiter in annual horoscope is independent of the natal chart because his lord ship in annual chart is likely to be different.
How ever the effects as seen from the annual chart have to be read in conjunction with the effect seen in the natal chart. For e.g. If th natal chart Raahu sub period is running and it is bad where as annual chart has good Jupiter sub period then the modifies reading would be 1month 18 days of relief from main problem seen in the natal chart and so on.
There is elaborate literature on preparation of Varshphal chart and method of reading the same
Tajika neelakanthi is one of the famous ancient texts which deals with preparation and reading of these charts. Eminent astrologers like Late Dr B.V Raman have also written books named Varshphal making the working simple for modern students of astrology.
Varshphal chart help to read very many minor incidents of life loss by theft or minor accidents, marriage of close relatives etc. so far to my knowledge no astrologer has taken this work as full time occupation.
The modern astrological soft wares include Varshaphal in their program, which can be used to confirm or modify birth chart effects over a given period.
