The change in position of earth or equinoctial precession is taken into account and the position of planets fixed at the original place by deducting the degrees of movement of earth over the years.
In Sanskrit language movement is known as AYANA and the quantum is called AMSA. Thus the shift came to be known as ayanaamsa.
