The Vedic and western Horoscopes are the same in calculations. The position of planets is taken as they are at present in both the systems. This is called Sayana method of casting a horoscope. The aspects of planets are also same called quarter, half ¾ and full.
In western terms they are called Semi sextile i.e. 30 degrees apart, sextile, 60 degrees apart Square 90 degrees apart and trine 120 degrees apart. Conjunctions and oppositions are same. The results delineated on the basis of these Sayana horoscopes are also same in both the systems. Naturally the question will arise as to what is the difference then? In Vedic astrology this Sayana horoscope is reduced to Nirayana by deducting the Ayana amsa or precession of equinoxes.
Thus the position of planets changes by certain degrees and also the cusp of the houses. The horoscope cast by this method is known as a Nirayana horoscope. Thus we see that a western horoscope can easily be converted to a Nirayana horoscope or a Nirayana horoscope converted to Sayana (western) by deducting or adding the Ayanaamsa. However the astrology readings of both the methods differ in many respects owing to change in planetary positions.
